Leveraging the monitoring and filtering capabilities built into the Mac OS Firewall is a very vital measure for detecting and blocking unwanted traffic and communications. The Mac OS Firewall is not a sophisticated Firewall with features such as Deep Packet Inspection, etc. Nevertheless, its basic features are good and reliable enough to be part of the layers of security.
Follow the steps below to enable the Mac OS Firewall.

- Select System Preferences on the apple menu followed by Security and Privacy
- Click on the padlock icon on the bottom left to unlock the preference pane
- Click Turn On firewall
- Choose your preferred firewall options in the firewall tab.
